BLENDBOX
Building a Breakthrough in Generative Design
Blendbox lets users create layered generative artwork and see results in near real-time. It began as a raw idea—a loose machine learning concept—and evolved into a powerful, intuitive product built from scratch. This project spanned every aspect of design: product planning, brand development, UX strategy, UI design, prototyping, and developer handoff.

Layered Creativity
Most AI image generators spit out a single image with limited control. Blendbox flipped that script. Editable layers let users build compositions one step at a time—adjusting, refining, and remixing as they went. This structure opened up a new kind of interaction, giving users creative freedom without sacrificing simplicity. From mobile to desktop, the interface was designed to stay out of the way and make experimentation easy.

From Zero to System
With no existing structure to lean on, the design began at zero. The product name, identity, and full UI system were crafted to fit within the Blockade Labs ecosystem—but also to stand on their own. The visual language needed to balance expressive creativity with precision and control. Every detail—from icons to motion—was designed to scale as the product evolved.
Real-Time, Real Control
Blendbox didn’t just generate images—it responded. Users could see each layer come to life as they made changes, allowing for faster iteration and more deliberate design. This meant designing a UI that could flex in real time while keeping the experience grounded. The layering system became a core feature: toggle, tweak, and test—all without losing track of what’s happening on the canvas.

Built for Handoff
Collaboration with the ML team was foundational to shaping features early on. Once the product vision was locked, the design process moved into execution mode: clear user flows, high-fidelity prototypes, spec documentation, and a full component library. This ensured a clean handoff to development and helped keep the final build aligned with the original design intent—all the way through launch.
